Heela Sponsorship Foundation, originated in 2009, is a Philanthropic non-for-profit organization dedicated to the orphaned children of Pukhtunkhwa and Afghanistan. This foundation was created by a few very dedicated individuals, who are extremely passionate about humanitarian work, as well as the betterment of Pukhtuns, particularly Pukhtun children, currently suffering amidst the violence and chaos.
The war waged upon Pukhtuns, from both sides of the Durand line, has only intensified in the last few years. And, in the process, it has not only left numerous beautiful Pukhtun children orphaned and homeless, but it has also snatched them of their rights to go to school and getting access to a decent education.
The word “Heela” in the Pashto language means hope; hope that someday we will overcome this adversity that has befallen our people. Thus, we strongly believe that education is the sole basis upon which our Pukhtun youths will develop and prosper. We believe it is our only HOPE!
With only a couple hundred dollars a year or more, we can make a significant improvement in one child’s life. The child will not only get access to the best schools in the region, but we will also ensure they are taken well care of, in terms of basic daily necessities, such as food, clothing, and shelter.
Furthermore, the team at Heela has already started the sponsorship process. At the moment, we are sponsoring four beautiful children, and they are all siblings; their names are Sumera, Adnan, Samiullah, and Yousaf Khan. Their ages range from as young as five years old to as old as ten. Their father was killed by Taliban militants, not too long ago, and they are now living with their mother, who is only in her early 20s, and grandfather.
The school they will be attending is called Swat Public School and College, also known as SPS College Swat. It is one of the most highly-recognized and prestigious schools in the region of Swat. For more information about the school, please follow this link: http://www.spscollege.edu.pk/
Dr. Fakhir-E-Alam, a current medical student studying in Bannu, has been the backbone of Heela Sponsorship Foundation. He met with families in the regions that were most affected by the turmoil, and managed to set the whole project in motion. If it wasn’t for him, none of this would have been possible. From finding these children, to picking the best schools, to sending us pictures of the children, and giving us a breakdown of all the fees and living expenses; we can now happily say that all four children are enrolled in SPS College Swat successfully, and they will be starting school on January 25, 2010.
Our website is currently under construction, but if you need to reach us, please don’t hesitate to e-mail us at email@example.com. We would love to hear from you and welcome anyone who is interested in sponsoring a child.
Our future projects include filming a documentary about Heela Sponsorship Foundation in the fall of 2010, as well as creating partnerships with larger organizations, for aid and support, such as War Child Canada, Amnesty International, Canadian Red Cross, UNICEF – just to name a few.
May my beloved Pukhtuns triumph in the face of adversity; and may our dear children become educated, so that they may lead a broken nation that has seen too much spilt blood, towards peace and prosperity.
